“I lost my 22-year-old son to suicide this year. Our society still treats death by suicide as a taboo subject. So, as a mom not only am I left to grieve my son but people avoid talking to me or bringing my son up in conversation because they don’t know what to say or do. It is very isolating and you feel forgotten. I am so grateful for We Saw the Light and the amount of care and thought they put into letting families feel cared for and thought of the first year after losing their loved one. Every month when the package arrives it feels like a warm hug from a dear friend who is letting me know I am not alone in this pain and someone cares. These kind gifts have helped keep me from sinking into isolation and despair.”

“My son Nicholas took his life October 6 of 2022. It was the worst day of my whole life. He was my only son he needed me and I needed him. WSTL gave me hope in a dark world. The organization is so loving and caring and would do anything for anybody they understand what it’s like to lose a loved one because they have all been there. After the funeral, everybody goes away and goes on in their own life that’s when we saw the light comes in to help just knowing that someone thinks about you and cares for you makes a world of difference. “I lost my husband on March 19, 2024 to suicide. If it wasn't for the organization's support I don't think mentally I would be where I am now. I felt so alone because while I have experienced so much loss in my life, none was ever due to suicide and especially that being of my husband. They go the extra mile every month to support so many families that have gone through or just recently gone through this terrible type of loss.
